My Favorite Thing

March 8th 2018

Looking at these two beautiful people we helped create I can't help but think, do they look like a Lewis and Edith? One of my favorite past-times, or hobbies shall we dare to say, is coming up with baby names. Naming little people who will grow into big people with their interests and passions and families is seriously the most fun thing to do. Does the name fit our family? Our interests? Does it roll off the tongue well? Is it too popular, too crazy? Can it grow with them into adulthood? All questions I asked myself when coming up with names for our kids.

We don't know if we will have a third baby, but with two kids already I have a some guidelines of what the third kid's name needs to be. Both Edith and Lewis sound a bit old fashioned, which fits Cory and my "style". They also have five letters to them. So the next kid's name (whether she or he even is created lol ) needs to fit that bill. So here is a round up of 5 letter names I will be considering if baby number 3 happens.

let's start with the girls

Ellen    I think this name is so perfectly sweet and will grow with her when she is older. She can also shorten it to Elle if she doesn't like the whole name. But would Edie and Elle be too close sounding for sisters?

Greta  We are both so so incredibly sad that we used this name for one of our dogs. We absolutely adore it and Edith would have had this name 100% if we didn't use it.

Gwenn  A name you don't hear often. I added the extra so it would have the 5 letters to it. Usually spelt Gwen or Gwyn. I think it's simple and sounds like a lovely little ladies name.

Annie  I've only known 2 Annie's my whole life and it just sounds so sweet!

Mabel   This name definitely fits the bill for old fashioned. Maybe a little too old fashioned? It's also a family name so that would be a sweet nod.

Nelle   I adore this name but Cory wasn't too fond of it. I added the e at the end to make it 5 letters.

Agnes  Another old fashioned name that I have come to really adore. Thinking it actually may be too old fashioned though. Don't know what she'd use as a nickname if she ended up hating her name.

Darcy  A name you don't really think of for a girl but I think it sounds so playful!

Clara   A family name that I've always loved. Cory was on the fence since he knows a lot of Claires.

Hazel   This name has grown with popularity the last year and as much as I love it I think maybe Hazel Hartmann has a funny ring to it.

on to the boys

Jones This was a top contender for Edith's name if she was a boy. Usually a last name I find it as a first makes it a strong name for a little boy to grow into.

Peter A classic name. I've always liked this name and have only met one Peter in my life. Unfortunately Cory knows like 4.

Jacob Another classic strong name. We'd have to make sure no one called him Jake though.

James Strong, classic. But no Jimmy's around here.

Henry A name I really like but that's becoming very popular. Also, same with Hazel, Henry Hartmann has a funny ring.

Any five letter names send them my way!
